01/ Overview
The route
This city walk reveals Wipkingen’s contrasts: from Käferberg down to the Wolfgrimmbach, through neighbourhood streets and to the former railway facilities at Letten, before climbing back from the riverbank to Bucheggplatz.
From the Zürich, Bucheggplatz stop, the «Züri z Fuess» city walk initially heads uphill towards Käferberg. After just under a kilometre, it reaches its highest point near Käferberg at around 500 m. The route then descends through Wipkingen, follows the Wolfgrimmbach and reaches the listed Reformed church.
Further down, shingle-clad houses and the Rationierungsbrunnen fountain reveal another side of the neighbourhood. Built in 1919, the fountain once supplied drinking water; today, spring water flows from it. The route continues via Wipkingerplatz to Wipkingerpark, which links Wipkingen with Zürich-West. Here, the dense urban neighbourhood opens out onto the riverbank and the former railway facilities at Letten.
Passing Bahnhof Letten and the Künstlerhaus, the circuit leads to the Badi Unterer Letten, with an opportunity for a swim along the way. The path then climbs back through Wipkingen. The busy Rosengarten forms a striking contrast to the riverside before the route returns to Bucheggplatz via the Waid.
