01/ Overview
The route
A two-hour urban circuit through the old village centre, garden suburbs and high-rise developments. Rural-looking open spaces and the Schwamendinger Dorfbach reveal a surprisingly green side of Zurich.
It is only a few steps from the Zürich, Schwamendingerplatz stop to the starting point of this urban walk. Between the first houses, the path climbs towards the Wirtschaft Ziegelhütte. Just beyond, the route reaches its highest point at around 480 m. Centuries-old farmhouses on the hillside recall the former village of Schwamendingen.
The route then leads back into the residential neighbourhoods. Garden suburbs and high-rise developments alternate with rural-looking open spaces; between Roswiesenplatz, the green corridor along Glattwiesenstrasse and Auwiesen, there is plenty of room for meadows and playgrounds. The Urimi restaurant and bakery and the emergency water fountain are also close to the route.
The lowest part of the circuit is reached at the Freibad Auhof outdoor pool. From here, the Schwamendinger Dorfbach accompanies the route almost to the end. Passing the Kirchenzentrum Saatlen and the fountain with the owl, the walk leads through Schwamendingen’s garden suburb back to Schwamendingerplatz and the stop of the same name.
