01/ Overview
The route
Through the wild valleys north of Lavin and Guarda, and above the tree line on narrow paths along the steep hillside. Past rhododendron bushes and across stony hillsides. You have a magnificent view of the surrounding 3,000 m peaks. The hike ends in the ruggedly attractive town of Guarda.
The five-hour mountain hike begins directly at the Lavin stop. Above the village, the mountain path soon climbs steeply, accounting for a large share of the roughly 1,100 metres of ascent. Sections of woodland provide variety, with meadows and pastures opening up in between. Almost the entire route follows a white-red-white waymarked mountain hiking trail; accordingly, the long ascent requires stamina and sure-footedness.
Around halfway along the route, the highest point is reached near Muott'Auta at just over 2,200 m. The main ascent is now complete. The trail then continues on a long descent, partly across open slopes and partly through woodland. Over the 13 kilometres, the descent also totals around 860 metres before Guarda draws nearer. The hike ends in the village after a little over five hours. From the finish, the Guarda, cumün stop is only a few minutes away on foot.
