Nationalpark-Panoramaweg, Stage 7/7

The trail to the 23 mountain lakes on the plateau of Macun leads to Munt Baselgia at 2,945 m. Ibices live in the rocky landscape as well as chamois and marmots. The 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular. A steep descent follows across scree slopes, meadows and through dense mountain forests.

From Zernez railway station, the route leads through the old village centre and past the Reformed church on its elevated site. The settlement is soon left behind. The mountain path climbs steeply, first through forest and then across open slopes. At around 21 kilometres, with some 1,550 metres of ascent and a walking time of just under eight hours, the hike is long and demanding.

The path continues to gain altitude across open pastures and passes Munt Baselgia. Above this point, the terrain becomes increasingly barren and rocky. Near Spi da Baselgia, the hike reaches its highest point at around 2,940 m. The long ascent is now complete. Shortly afterwards, the descent begins, leading directly past the Lais d’Immez, whose waters form a tranquil contrast to the rock.

The mountain path now descends steadily. The rocky terrain gradually gives way once more to open slopes and forest. Only towards the end does the path become wider before reaching Lavin. A few steps later, the hike ends at the railway station.
