01/ Overview
The route
The Champlönch-Il Fuorn route is the ideal tour as an introduction to the Swiss National Park. Thanks to its interactive kids trail it is also ideal for families. The highlight is the cute marmots at Alp Grimmels.
From the Champlönch P1 bus stop in the municipality of Zernez, the mountain trail initially climbs through forest. Below Muottas Champlönch, it steadily gains height without heading for the summit. The first two and a half kilometres or so involve almost 300 metres of ascent. Higher up, the trees recede, and the trail continues through meadows and open terrain. At around 2,060 metres, the highest point is reached.
Shortly afterwards, the Grimmels viewpoint lies directly on the route. The longer descent now begins, initially across open terrain and later once again among trees. Towards the end, the mountain trail descends more steeply again, reaching the old lime kiln after around six kilometres. A few steps further on, the hike ends at the Il Fuorn P6 bus stop, also in the municipality of Zernez, after just under two hours.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
