01/ Overview
The route
In the heart of the National Park the trail across Muottas Champlönch climbs down to the deep Spölschlucht gorge and back up to Fuorcla Murter. The views range far across untouched nature with valleys full of rocks and boulders, steep mountain slopes and rocky peaks. Forests of stone pine, extensive Alpine meadows and marmots make this route particularly attractive.
From the Il Fuorn P6 bus stop, the mountain trail starts right at the edge of the forest. After just a few minutes, the Alte Kalkofen stands beside the trail amid rocky terrain. The route then climbs through extensive forest to the Grimmels viewpoint. Narrow paths continue in a steady succession of ascents and descents before a longer descent leads to Lai dad Ova Spin. The reservoir lies at the lowest point of the hike, at around 1,630 m.
The major climb begins at the lake. The white-red-white waymarked path quickly gains elevation between forest and open alpine pastures; higher up, the terrain becomes more barren and rocky. Shortly before Murter, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,550 m. After the pass, the trail turns towards Val Cluozza and descends steeply once more.
After a total of around six hours, with approximately 1,300 metres of ascent and 1,200 metres of descent, the mountain trail ends at Chamanna Cluozza.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
