ViaJura

The ViaJura leads through the Birs and Schüss valleys from Basel via Delsberg to Biel. It runs over historically valuable sections, including the legend-steeped Glögglifelspass, the exposed Mont Raimeux and the Pierre Pertuis Roman rock arch.

From Basel SBB railway station, the roughly 130-kilometre route initially leads through the city. Before long, the trail runs alongside the St. Alban-Teich. At St. Jakob, the built-up landscape gives way to the first stretches of woodland before the hiking trail climbs via Münchenstein and Aesch. The ruins of Pfeffingen stand on the ridge of the Blauen, once the main seat of the Counts of Thierstein-Pfeffingen.

Beyond Laufen, open meadows, wooded Jura heights and villages alternate. In the Delsberg area, the route meets the Birs and follows its valley via Vicques to Moutier. The trail then climbs back into the hills. Near Mont Raimeux and around Champoz, forests and pastures shape the landscape. The hike reaches its highest point near Moron at around 1'330 m.

The route descends again via Tavannes and Sonceboz-Sombeval. The final kilometres lead through the settlements of the Bernese Jura to Biel, where the tour ends at the Taubenloch stop. In total, around 4'200 metres of ascent and just under 40 hours of walking time must be tackled.
