Dreiland-Wanderweg

With a detour into the neighbouring country, this route is taking a wide arc around Basel. The hike is marked by impressions along the Rhine, variety in the Markgräfler vineyard region and constantly changing views of the city.

From the Basel Schifflände stop, the circular route leads through the Old Town of Grossbasel and out of the city centre. Before long, the Birsig serves as a guide. Near Binningen, the trail passes directly by St. Margarethen Church before the urban surroundings gradually give way to woodland and open countryside.

Via Münchenstein and through the Däntsche forest, the route continues along straightforward, yellow-waymarked hiking trails. The long ascent eventually leads to St. Chrischona. Near the Chrischonakirche, roughly halfway through the hike, the route reaches its highest point at just over 500 m. The church itself stands at the highest point in the canton of Basel-Stadt.

The circular route then turns back towards Basel. Stretches of woodland, meadows and the edges of residential areas alternate before the familiar city streets return. After around 43 kilometres, just under twelve hours and approximately 900 metres of ascent, this long tour ends back at Schifflände.
