ViaSurprise, Stage 2/6

Past the Baslerweiher (Basel Pond), the route leads over gentle hills to Reigoldswil, a village long known for its tradition of silk ribbon weaving. Shorten the ascent to the Wasserfallen by catching a ride in a cableway gondola.

From the Seewen SO, Herrenmatt bus stop, the waymarked hiking trail leads through the village and soon reaches the Basler Weiher. This small Jura lake lies at around 560 m and provides a tranquil start. The route then enters the Holzenberg forest. Alternating between woodland and open meadows, it crosses the Jura uplands, with several climbs and short counter-ascents, before the longer descent to Reigoldswil begins.

In the village, the route passes Restaurant Rebstock. It then follows the Hintere Frenke upstream. The stream and shady woodland now define the character of the route, while the final ascent steadily gains height. Over a total distance of around 12 kilometres, the route involves approximately 660 metres of ascent. Wasserfallen is reached after just under four hours. At around 930 m, the destination is also the highest point of the hike; the Wasserfallen stop is close to the endpoint.
