Vier-Seen-Wanderung

Fabulous mountain scenery around mighty Mount Titlis, unique flora, the crystal-clear waters of Lakes Melch, Tannen, Engstlen and Trüb – this route linking Melchsee-Frutt and Engelberg is justly rated as one of the classic high-altitude hikes.

The hike begins in Melchsee-Frutt, just a few steps from the public transport stop of the same name. The settlement is soon left behind at Melchsee. A mountain path climbs through open alpine pastures and leads to Tannensee. Beyond the lake, the terrain becomes gentler again; at Tannalp, the Tannalp Chapel stands directly beside the route.

The trail continues across broad pastures, steadily rising and falling on its way to Engstlensee. This natural mountain lake lies directly beside the trail. The mountain path then steepens: the long ascent to Jochpass requires further stamina and reaches the highest point of the hike at around 2'210 m.

From the pass, the route descends across open terrain towards Engelberg. The descent accounts for most of the remaining distance and ends at Trüebsee, whose shore is reached shortly before the destination. Just over four and a half hours should be allowed for the 15 kilometres.
