Walserweg Gottardo, Stage 2/14

Crossing three alps and two secluded passes, and following an old mountain path, you reach one of the most original Walser villages: Saley or Salecchio Superiore. The Rifugio Zum Gora, part of a typical Walser group of houses, is located at the edge of the village, on a terrace with a wonderful view across Valle Antigorio in Italy.

Crampiolo lies far from public transport: the nearest stop, Binn, Brunnebiel, is just over 6 km away. From here, the route climbs through open meadows and pastures. As it runs entirely outside the marked hiking trail network, confident, independent navigation is essential.

After around 6 km, the hike reaches its highest point near Bancuraà at approximately 2,350 m. The long ascent defines the day up to this point, with a total elevation gain of around 880 metres. The route then leads mainly downhill. Open meadows and pastures continue to shape the landscape, while the descent to Salècchio extends over around 1,150 metres of elevation.

After just over four and a half hours and 10 km, the route ends in Salècchio at just under 1,500 m. The destination is likewise not directly served by public transport. The nearest stop, Rossboda (Grossalp), is almost 6 km away. Careful planning is therefore required for both the outward and return journeys.
