Wilket-Gratweg

From Brunnadern you climb through the forest up to Wilkethöchi, highest point of this tour and panoramic highlight. The views of the Alpstein mountain range and the Alps of the Glarus region are spectacular. Two short climbs follow after the village of Dicken, in addition to two mountain inns with lovely views, before the path begins to descend via the Bruderwald forest to Degersheim.

The hike begins at Brunnadern-Neckertal railway station, in the heart of the village. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail soon leaves the houses behind and climbs into the forest. With around 860 metres of ascent over twelve kilometres, the route is quite demanding despite the easy paths. After Gerensattel, the trail continues uphill; shortly before Wilkethöchi, it reaches its highest point at around 1,170 m.

The route then continues through woodland and across open meadows in a steady succession of ups and downs. Short descents followed by further climbs are characteristic of the hilly Neckertal terrain. The barbecue shelter at Aeuel is a good place for a break before the trail gradually turns towards Degersheim. At Fuchsacker, another refreshment stop lies directly on the route. Towards the end, open stretches become more frequent, before the first houses herald the approach to the destination. After a little over four hours, the hike ends at Degersheim railway station.
