01/ Overview
The route
A short circular walk through Brienzwiler, climbing into a landscape of woodland and rock to the hidden Zwergliloch before returning through the village’s traditional lanes.
From the Brienzwiler, Dorf bus stop, it is only a few steps to Hinterdorf. This is where the circular walk of just over an hour begins, leading through the traditional lanes of Brienzwiler. It soon leaves the houses behind and climbs into the forest, mostly away from the network of marked hiking trails.
The route winds between trees and rocks to the hidden Zwergliloch. The short ascent reaches the highest point, at around 740 m, early on. Roots, rocks and the intimate woodland landscape characterise this section; the trail is not suitable for people with limited mobility or small children.
The route then descends back towards Brienzwiler. Open stretches replace the forest before the first houses and village lanes reappear. After just over two kilometres, the circuit closes in Hinterdorf; from there, it is just under 200 m to the Brienzwiler, Dorf bus stop.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
