01/ Overview
The route
Cross-country skiing south of Lake Thun in the winter wonderland of the Suldtal valley, a nature reserve at the foot of the Morgenberghorn. Enjoy total tranquillity, broken only by the gurgling waters of the Suldbach stream or the wingbeat of a golden eagle.
From the Aeschiried, Schulhaus bus stop, the 13-kilometre cross-country ski trail initially leads across open terrain. After the early descent, it reaches its lowest point at just over 1,000 m. The circuit then climbs again, alternating between meadows and forest. Near Pochtenfall, it passes the restaurant of the same name; the waterfall itself lies a little off the route in rocky surroundings.
The longest ascent comes in the second half. Near Ufem Letze, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,260 m before sweeping back towards Aeschiried in a wide arc. Meadows once again alternate with sections of forest. Towards the end, the Panorama restaurant lies close to the route. A little later, after around 13 kilometres and a total ascent of approximately 380 metres, the circuit ends back at the schoolhouse, just a few steps from the bus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
