01/ Overview
The route
Alongside the Grönbach stream in the secluded Justital valley, past the site of the famous «Chästeilete», or annual cheese sharing. Between steep mountain flanks further into the valley, from where it is plain to see how the Sichelpass (Sichel = sickle or crescent) got its name.
The circular cross-country ski trail begins at the Grönhütte in Sigriswil at around 1,100 m. The starting point is some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Niederhorn, is about one kilometre away. From the Grönhütte, the trail crosses open terrain and initially climbs steadily. The landscape remains broad and undeveloped as far as the upper section of the loop.
After a little over four kilometres, Lilis Beizli stands directly beside the route. Shortly afterwards, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,300 m. This puts just under 200 metres of elevation between the start and the highest point of the loop. From here, the route descends again and crosses the open terrain on its return to Sigriswil. The eleven kilometres involve around 260 metres of elevation gain, with just over three hours required for the full loop. Towards the end, the trail heads back to its lowest point and finishes where it began: at the Grönhütte.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
