01/ Overview
The route
A panoramic geology trail through open, increasingly rocky high ground: from Foppa, the mountain path leads to Fuorcla Raschaglius and climbs to around 2,670 m before descending again to the alpine pastures.
From the Segnes stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at Foppa (Segnes), at around 2,100 m. The geology trail «How the Alps Formed – Simply Explained», which explores the formation of the Alps, begins at the Segnes visitor pavilion. Segneshütte is nearby, while the mountain path soon enters open, increasingly rocky terrain.
The route climbs steadily across broad alpine pastures to Fuorcla Raschaglius, at just under 2,600 m. It then ascends once more, reaching its highest point at around 2,670 m after just over nine kilometres, not far from Atlas. The return route loses elevation quickly, leading across barren slopes back to the open pastures of Foppa. After around twelve kilometres, the four-hour hike ends in Foppa; the nearest stop, Grauberg, is just under 400 m away.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
