01/ Overview
The route
Alpine pastures, panoramic views and playful activity stations characterise this family-friendly high-level trail from Rigi Staffel to Rigi Scheidegg.
From Rigi Staffel railway station, the broad hiking trail leads gently up and down across open Alpine pastures. At the stations along the Alpine Experience Trail, Margrit’s stories offer insights into life on the alp, while a Pixi book keeps children entertained with puzzles about Reto and Barry the mountain dog. Covered barbecue sites provide opportunities for grilling along the way. The trail soon descends to Rigi First, where the Bärenstube lies directly on the route.
The trail then continues through the Alpine landscape towards Unterstetten. After reaching its lowest point, it gradually climbs again to Hinder Dossen. The final section gains a little more elevation as expansive panoramic views open up. At around 1'640 m, Rigi Scheidegg is also the highest point of the hike. After just over two and a half hours, the Alpine Experience Trail ends directly at Rigi Scheidegg railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
