01/ Overview
The route
From Rigi Kulm, the Alpgenussweg crosses broad pastures to two alpine cheese dairies. Cheese made from Rigi alpine milk, short counter-climbs and the Maria zum Schnee Chapel characterise the descent.
The cogwheel railway via Goldau leads up to Rigi Kulm. At around 1,750 m, this is already the highest point of the route. The Alpgenussweg immediately begins its descent across open meadows and pastures. At Alp Chäserenholz, everything revolves around Rigi alpine milk: the cheese dairy can be visited, while whey baths, alpine breakfasts and overnight stays are also available.
The route continues via Schwändi to Alp Trieb, where full-flavoured alpine cheese is made from Rigi alpine milk. After the broad hiking trail at the beginning, the second section runs partly outside the marked hiking trail network. Pastures continue to dominate the scenery, with only short counter-climbs interrupting the longer descents.
In the final third, the Maria zum Schnee Chapel comes into view directly beside the route. The trail then climbs noticeably once more and reaches Rigi Klösterli after around five kilometres. However, the stop of the same name is not located directly at the finish, but around 500 m away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
