01/ Overview
The route
Following a former railway line, the Rigi Cliff Path winds through mountain meadows and rocky terrain. A tunnel, a railway bridge and relics of the steam railway accompany this panoramic high-level trail to Rigi Scheidegg.
From Rigi Wölfertschen-First station, the Rigi Cliff Path initially leads to Rigi First. With hardly any major climbs, the hiking trail follows the route of the former Rigi-Kaltbad-Scheidegg railway. An old passenger carriage, now used as a holiday home, recalls the railway era, as does the former water station for steam locomotives. A short tunnel also forms part of this first section of the route.
The high-level trail then continues through mountain meadows and past striking rock formations. Views of lakes and the Alps open up time and again. Rest areas and barbecue sites lie along the way before the Unterstetten railway bridge provides a particularly vivid reminder of the railway’s former route. From Unterstetten, the trail climbs gradually towards Hinder Dossen.
Most of the elevation gain comes over the final kilometre and a half or so. The terrain remains open as Rigi Scheidegg draws closer. After just over two hours, the hike ends at around 1,640 m by the mountain station of the cable car to Kräbel.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
