01/ Overview
The route
This unobstructed high-altitude trail with views of Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz as well as the Alpine chain is a special experience. This not only applies to the views; the Rigi Panorama Trail also has plenty to offer from a historical perspective.
The seven-kilometre hike begins in the heart of Rigi Kaltbad, at the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads to the houses of Rigi First. Initially it loses only a little elevation, reaching the lowest point of the route after just over two kilometres.
The trail then climbs steadily through open meadows and pastures. After around three kilometres, a barbecue shelter stands directly beside the route. Beyond it, the gentle ascent continues across the largely treeless heights. The trail gains elevation steadily, with no significant descents.
In the final third, the route crosses the Hinder Dosse pass. From there, it is just over one and a half kilometres to Rigi Scheidegg, where the highest point is also reached at around 1,640 m. The destination lies slightly east of the actual summit, at the Rigi Scheidegg stop.
