01/ Overview
The route
From Rigi Kaltbad, the trail climbs across scenic alpine pastures to Rigi Kulm before descending to Klösterli. Along the way, sweeping views open up over Lake Lucerne and the Alps.
From the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop, the trail leads through Rigi Kaltbad to the rock chapel of St. Michael. The chapel and the local spring mark the beginnings of tourism on the Rigi. Shortly afterwards, the Känzeli viewpoint offers views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps; Queen Victoria visited the viewpoint in 1868.
The broad hiking trail climbs across open meadows and pastures via Rigi Staffelhöhe and Rigi Staffel. At around 1,750 m, Rigi Kulm is the highest point on the route, just below the highest summit of the Rigi. The panoramic view extends across lakes and mountain ranges.
The route then passes the Chäserenholz alpine cheese dairy, where flavoursome alpine cheese is made. On the long descent via Ober-Schwändi, alpine pastures alternate with stretches of woodland. Towards the end, the route briefly leaves the marked hiking trail network and reaches the Maria zum Schnee pilgrimage chapel, which has stood for around 300 years. Shortly afterwards, the hike ends in Rigi Klösterli, around 150 m from the railway station of the same name.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
