01/ Overview
The route
Crossing alpine pastures and the scenic Felsenweg, this themed trail leads from Rigi Kaltbad to Hinterbergen. Information panels, steep views down to Lake Lucerne and a long descent characterise the southern side of the Rigi.
From the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop, the trail initially passes through Rigi Kaltbad and continues to Rigi First. Following the route of a former railway line, it runs almost level along the southern side of the Rigi. Information panels draw attention to the biodiversity and to the plant and animal life shaped by the different types of rock and the lake’s mild climate.
Along the Felsenweg, there are steep views down sheer rock faces to Lake Lucerne, with the Alpine peaks rising above on the horizon. Between open alpine pastures and rocky sections, the broad hiking trail leads via Rigi Unterstetten to the highest point of the route at just under 1,500 m. The long descent begins soon afterwards.
The mountain trail briefly becomes steeper as it descends to the Seeweg. Farther down, the route crosses Glettialp; the final section across the pastures lies outside the marked hiking trail network. The scattered houses at the destination are reached by Restaurant Hinterbergen. From here, the cable car descends to Vitznau.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
