Alpine Passes Trail, Stage 42/43

A steep climb to Caux, then a leisurely walk to Le Planellet. Repeatedly, views of the mountains open up, including the Dents du Midi. The second half begins with a descent in the forest. Below, a change of scenery: exposed passages, partly secured with chains, lead up to the Col de Taney. The hamlet of the same name with its lake is also located there.

From the Torgon, village bus stop, the hike initially leads through the houses of Torgon. Before long, the trail enters the forest and climbs steeply. After around four kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near Le Planellet at just under 1,700 m. The mountain trail, now marked white-red-white, continues to the Col du Blancsex.

Beyond the pass, sections of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures. The route initially loses elevation, traverses the mountainside in a long series of ascents and descents, then climbs again in the final third. Rocky slopes dominate the surroundings before the Col de Taney is reached.

From the pass, the trail descends to Lac de Taney, a mountain lake at 1,408 m in the Valais Chablais. It follows the lakeshore to the Notre Dame des Neiges chapel and Refuge La Vouivre, before the hike ends in Taney after around four hours. There is no public transport connection directly at the destination; the nearest stop, Miex, Le Flon, is around 1.8 km away.
