01/ Overview
The route
Lac de Taney, high above the Rhone Valley, is a popular hiking destination. It is situated in the heart of one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Alps. The hikers can expect a rich variety of flora and stunning views of the surrounding peaks on this tour.
From Vesenand, near the «Miex, village» bus stop, the waymarked hiking trail climbs steadily through the forest. Around 640 metres of ascent must be tackled in total. After just over three kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at almost 1'500 m, bypassing the summit of La Suche. The gradient then eases, and open meadows and pastures increasingly appear between the trees.
In Taney, the trail passes Refuge La Vouivre and the Notre Dame des Neiges chapel. A little later, Lac de Taney comes into view at 1'408 m. The mountain lake is the tranquil highlight of this three-hour hike. Shortly afterwards, the trail crosses the Col de Taney and turns downhill again. The final descent leads back into the forest and ends after around eight kilometres in Miex, Le Flon. The bus stop of the same name is just under 300 metres from the finishing point.
