Alpine Passes Trail, Stage 7/43

On the ascent from Thalkirch, a superb view opens up across Beverin Nature Park. The people of the Safien Valley used to transport goods to the market in Ilanz via the Güner Lückli pass. In the forest above Val da Pitasch, the trail descends to the river Glenner and then climbs again to Vella.

The mountain hike of just over nine hours begins at the Thalkirch, Turrahus bus stop. The white-red-white marked trail leads through Thalkirch and past the Reformed church. The settlements are soon left behind. The route climbs steadily across open meadows and pastures, with sections of woodland adding variety.

Shortly before the Güner Lückli, the hike reaches its highest point at around 2,470 m. The long descent into Val Lumnezia then begins. The mountain trail crosses broad slopes before continuing through forest down to Duvin. With a total ascent of around 1,450 metres and a descent of 1,950 metres, the 28-kilometre route requires stamina.

After the lowest section, the trail climbs again to Peiden. It continues towards Vella across open terrain and through the settlements. Shortly before the destination, the route passes Baselgia da Pleiv, the oldest church in Val Lumnezia. A little later, the hike ends near the Vella, posta bus stop.
