01/ Overview
The route
Ruggedly romantic gorges, glacier mills, remains of the old disused mine e.g. furnace ruins, dilapidated hammer mill and works, line the trail to Innerferrera.
The mountain trail begins at the Andeer, Rofflaschlucht bus stop. Shortly afterwards, it passes the Rofflafall waterfall before climbing through forest into the Ferreratal. The entire route follows a mountain hiking trail marked in white, red and white. The approximately eleven kilometres, with an elevation gain of around 720 metres, take about three and a half hours.
After the first few kilometres through extensive woodland, the landscape increasingly opens out into meadows and pastures. About halfway along, the trail reaches Ausserferrera. The village provides a brief interlude before the next ascent begins. Sections of forest alternate with open terrain as the route continues farther into the valley.
Towards the end, the route reaches its highest point near Farcletta at around 1,500 metres. From there, the trail descends to Innerferrera. In the village, it passes the cantonal-listed Reformed church and ends shortly afterwards at the Ferrera, Innerferrera bus stop.
