ViaSpluga, Stage 2/4

Ingeniously laid path through the difficult Roflaschlucht (gorge) and the sparsely populated Rheinwald valley floor. Andeer and Splügen offer interesting townscapes. The Rheinwalder Valley Museum Crestawald Fortress Museum and Roflaschlucht cliff path are worth a visit.

From the Andeer, posta bus stop, the mountain trail leads out of the village and through Bärenburg. The forest soon closes in, broken only by the small Laj da Seara. After a short section away from the marked hiking trail network, the route passes close to the Rofflafall and continues uphill.

The long middle section runs mainly along a white-red-white marked mountain trail through dense forest. The landscape only becomes more open towards Sufnersee. The route approaches the shore of the reservoir, situated at around 1,400 m, and then reaches Sufers. There it passes the Reformed Church of St Salvator.

Beyond Sufers, the final ascent begins across meadows and pastures. After a total ascent of around 950 metres, the highest point, at just over 1,500 m, is reached shortly before the destination, not far from the Rundhorn. The broad hiking trail then descends to Splügen. East of the village, the ruins of Splügen Castle lie slightly off the route; the destination is in the village of Splügen.
