01/ Overview
The route
The big star of this hike is the diverse landscape around Arosa. From the highest point, the «Hauptichopf» peak, you can enjoy the splendid panorama of the Schanfigg and Rhine Valleys near Chur. Due to its convenient location, the trail is accessible from spring onwards and a popular early-season route.
From Arosa railway station, the circular route initially follows the Obersee before leaving the village behind. The path soon narrows and climbs across open slopes as a mountain hiking trail. After the first steep ascent, the route reaches its highest point near the Maraner Hauptji at around 2,140 m. This accounts for a substantial part of the roughly 600 metres of ascent overall.
The panoramic traverse then continues through open pastures and short stretches of woodland. With steady ups and downs, the mountain path leads to Rot Tritt, a viewpoint directly beside the route. From there, it continues straight to Prätschalp. The onward route descends towards Maran, passes the Panorama Arosa viewpoint and gradually changes to more comfortable paths.
The 15-kilometre circuit is completed via Prätschli. After just over four hours, the Obersee comes back into view, with Arosa railway station reached shortly afterwards.
