01/ Overview
The route
The hike leads north of Arosa through the forest and beyond the tree line over alpine meadows. It then descends more than 650 vertical metres into the valley. Imposing peaks, sweeping horse pastures and sun-baked wooden houses bring to life the times when the Walser people lived in this wild valley all year round.
From the Arosa stop, it is only a few steps to Obersee. The hike begins on the lakeshore, leaves the village and descends to the Arosa reservoir. The trail then continues to Furggaalp and climbs across open meadows and pastures to Tieja.
The route now follows a mountain hiking trail marked in white, red and white. After a steady succession of ascents and descents, it reaches Medergen, where the Alpenrose stands directly beside the trail. Shortly afterwards, the hike reaches its highest point at just under 2,100 m. By this point, a large part of the roughly 640 metres of ascent has been completed; from here, the route is predominantly downhill.
The mountain trail crosses open slopes towards Sapün-Dorfji, after which the forest draws closer. Towards the end, the route once again loses considerable elevation, reaching Langwies after 15 kilometres and just under five hours. The Langwies, Abzw. Bahnhof stop is located directly at the finish.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
