01/ Overview

The route

The route offers a wonderful panoramic view of the opposite side of the valley from Schanfigg and leads back to Arosa via the forest of the squirrel trail. The fluffy little animals are easy to attract, observe and feed with a few nuts and a little patience.

From the Arosa, Prätschli bus stop, the trail initially crosses open meadows. After only a short ascent, it reaches the highest point of the route at just under 1,940 m. A mountain path, narrower in places, then descends towards Maran. Near Restaurant Isblaatere, the surroundings gradually change from pasture to woodland.

The descent continues along yellow-marked trails and eventually enters the built-up area of Arosa. Towards the end, the route leaves the marked hiking trail network, so particular attention must be paid to the route. The Obersee soon comes into view, its calm waters contrasting with the nearby village centre. From the lake, it is only a few minutes to Arosa railway station. The hike covers around four kilometres in total and takes just under an hour. Despite the small elevation gain, sure-footedness is required, particularly on the mountain path section; in return, much of the route is a pleasant descent.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
