01/ Overview
The route
This half-day trip will be heavily rewarded with a fantastic 360° mountain panorama view on the Weisshorn peak. Nonetheless, you should not underestimate the steep ascent and descent to and from the peak. During the summer season, various huts invite you to take a break along the way.
From the Arosa (Mittelstation) Weisshorn stop, the mountain trail begins climbing immediately. It leads uphill across open alpine pastures and increasingly rocky terrain. After around five kilometres, the highest point is reached on the Weisshorn at approximately 2,650 m, right beside the summit restaurant. The long climb accounts for most of the roughly 700 metres of elevation gain.
From the summit, the mountain trail descends steeply to the Carmennapass at around 2,370 m. The pass links Innerarosa via Obersäss and the Urdental with Tschiertschen in the Schanfigg. However, the route remains on the Arosa side and continues down to the Carmennahütte, which lies directly beside the trail. Below the hut, the rocky terrain once again gives way to open meadows and pastures. Approaching Innerarosa, the trail widens and leads between the first houses. After ten kilometres and just under four hours, the hike ends in Arosa, a few steps from the Arosa, Kulm stop.
