01/ Overview

The route

It's hard to imagine just how much industry (glazier’s workshops, sawmills, mills) there was on the Doubs 200 years ago. Today only a few signs of this intense industrial activity remain, as in Le Theusseret shortly before Goumois, the finish of the second stage.

From the La Maison-Monsieur, bif. bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at Maison Monsieur. The 21-kilometre hike begins with an ascent through woodland and across open meadows. After just over two kilometres, the highest point is reached near Gros Crêt at around 700 m. The trail then descends to Biaufond and reaches the shore of Lac de Biaufond. The lake is an artificial reservoir on the Doubs at the French-Swiss border.

The long middle section follows yellow-marked hiking trails, mainly through woodland. Meadows and pastures open up in between; with around 560 metres of ascent in total, the route remains undulating. Towards the end, the trail passes Restaurant Le Theusseret and continues through the wooded valley landscape. After a little over five and a half hours, the hike ends in Goumois. The Goumois, douane bus stop is only a few steps from the destination.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
