01/ Overview
The route
A strenuous Jura ascent through dense forest, open pastures near Le Noirmont and a long, steep descent to Belfond Dessous characterise this themed trail.
The Chemin de montagne begins in Les Barrières, well away from public transport: the nearest stop, Le Boéchet, gare, is around two and a half kilometres away. From the low-lying starting point, the mountain path climbs steeply through the forest. After just over three kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'000 m. Here, the dense forest increasingly gives way to open meadows and pastures.
With gentle ascents and descents, the Chemin de montagne, designated as a themed trail, continues to Le Noirmont. The church of Saint-Hubert and the Maison Wenger are in the village, though a good 200 m off the route. A long descent then begins. In the forest below the Arête des Sommêtres, the path becomes narrower and steeper again, losing almost 500 metres in elevation by the time it reaches the valley floor. Near the end, Le Theusseret lies close by. From the finish, it is still just over one kilometre to the Goumois, Belfond stop; the hike ends in Belfond Dessous.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
