01/ Overview
The route
From Lake Lucerne, this steadily ascending hike follows the Gieslibach through woodland and farmland to Bürgenstock, with a barbecue site, the stream’s source and sweeping views across the lake and mountains.
From the boat landing in Stansstad, the route initially follows the shore of Lake Lucerne. It soon turns away from the water and follows the course of the Gieslibach uphill. Woodland paths alternate with open farmland, while views extend back across the lake and towards the mountains.
The trail continues to climb via Märli-Wald and Balmchäppili. At Unter Stegmatt, a barbecue site with seating offers a pleasant place to rest. The Gieslibach rises on the Allmend; this marks the source of the stream that guides the first part of the hike. The route then leads through Obbürgen, passing directly by the church. Also nearby are the Bergkäserei Boden mountain cheese dairy and the Kilchbüel farm, where homemade ice cream is available.
The final ascent once again leads through woodland and across open countryside up to Bürgenstock. After just over three hours, the hike ends at around 870 metres at the Bürgenstock Resort, the highest point on the route. The nearby Bürgenstock, Zentrum bus stop and the Bürgenstock-Bahn funicular provide convenient options for the return journey from the Bürgenstock Resort.
