01/ Overview
The route
From the lakeshore near Stansstad, the Remembrance Trail climbs the Bürgenberg. Historical stops, wooded slopes and open meadows accompany the circuit via Kehrsiten and Obbürgen.
The circuit begins at the Schnitzturm in Stansstad, just a few steps from the Stansstad (See) stop. The route initially leads through the village and out to the shore of Lake Lucerne. At a series of freely selectable stops, the Remembrance Trail explores the French Revolution and the contemporary demands for liberty and equality. The route continues via the Maria in Linden church to Kehrsiten, remaining at almost the same elevation for a long stretch, with the lake alongside.
Beyond Kehrsiten, the mountain path climbs steeply through woodland and across open slopes towards the Bürgenberg. Near the Bürgenstock, the route reaches its highest point at around 900 m; the buildings and facilities of the Bürgenstock Resort remain slightly off the route. The path then gradually descends through meadows and woodland to Obbürgen, passing directly by its church.
The final descent returns the circuit to the valley floor. The route leads back through Stansstad to the lake and the Schnitzturm; the Stansstad (See) stop is again just over 100 m away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
