01/ Overview
The route
A steep ascent through meadows, the tranquil Zingelwald and sweeping views of Lake Lucerne and Lake Alpnach define this hike across the Mueterschwandenberg.
From the Ennetmoos, Morgenstern PostBus stop, the route leads through the village and past the Winkelried Chapel of St Magnus. Beyond Allweg, it continues to the Hinterbach farm, where a steep ascent through meadows begins. The mountain path then enters the Zingelwald; this section is recommended only in dry weather. Near Drachenflue, the route reaches its highest point at around 850 metres.
On the Zingel, a barbecue site provides an opportunity for a break. At the same time, views open up across Lake Lucerne and Lake Alpnach to the mountains of Central Switzerland. The path then crosses the Mueterschwandenberg and follows a forest track along its northern slope, before meadows and isolated farms once again shape the landscape.
Farm-made ice cream and coffee are available at the Bäsäbeiz Fägnäscht. From there, the final section descends to St. Jakob, passing the church of the same name before reaching the nearby PostBus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
