01/ Overview
The route
A scenic circuit around Stans: from the village into open farmland, climbing to just under 600 m and returning to the railway station via Huebliegg and St Heinrich Chapel.
The signposted circular trail begins directly at Stans railway station. It initially leads through the neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the village and past farmhouses. At Wächselacher, the path narrows and continues as a farm track through open farmland before gradually gaining height via Niederdorf and Wirzboden.
Above Stans, the ascent continues towards Ober Hostatt. The flood protection structures on the slope are particularly striking, while this panoramic section also opens up views over the village and its surroundings. After roughly half the route, the trail reaches its highest point at just under 600 m.
The path then descends again via Chlostermatt. At Huebliegg, numerous benches offer places to pause and enjoy changing views of the village. The route continues through Hueblimatt to St Heinrich Chapel and on to Wilerrank. The final houses line the circular trail back to the centre of Stans and the railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
