Bruderklausenweg

Brother Klaus Way leads from Stans to Flüeli Ranft. This is the path Heimo Amgrund followed on the night of December 21, 1481. He was seeking the advice of Brother Klaus, who helped bring peace to the region.

From Stans railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the village and past the Church of St Peter and Paul. The landscape then opens up as the route crosses meadows and passes through small settlements towards St. Jakob. It follows the Rübibach for a short stretch before entering the Kernwald. At around 21 kilometres, with some 800 metres of ascent and a walking time of about six hours, this stage requires stamina, but follows marked hiking trails throughout.

Beyond the forest, open pastures alternate with inhabited areas. The trail continues to climb via Halten and St. Niklausen, reaching its highest point near Hüser at around 830 m. The route then descends past the Müslikapelle to Flüeli-Ranft. The Chapel of St Charles Borromeo, dating from 1618, stands there. The final descent leads to Sachseln, passing the parish and pilgrimage church of St Theodul. Shortly afterwards, the hike ends at the railway station, not far from the Sarnersee.
