01/ Overview
The route
After the initial ascent to Stans, impressive panoramic views open up over Stanser Boden, Lake Lucerne and the peaks of Central Switzerland. The stage's highlight at the end is the hermitage of Niklaus von Flüe with the Ranft chapels.
From the Stans stop, the waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the village and past the Church of St. Peter and Paul. The route then leaves the houses behind. It climbs gradually across open meadows and pastures, reaching the settlement of St. Jakob via Eimatt.
The trail briefly follows the Rübibach before the Kernwald marks a change in the landscape. Pastures repeatedly open up between the wooded sections. The Mei-Kapelle stands directly on the route; later come Halten and St. Niklausen, set in a landscape characterised by scattered farms.
Towards the end, the trail climbs once more. Near Hüser, it reaches the highest point of the hike at just over 800 metres. From there, it continues to Flüeli-Ranft, where the route ends at the Flüeli-Ranft, Dorf stop. Around five hours should be allowed for the 17 kilometres and just over 700 metres of elevation gain.
