01/ Overview
The route
Chapels, farmsteads and Schloss Heidegg define this broad arc through Lucerne’s Seetal. The trail climbs twice to open uplands before reaching Hitzkirch after a good five hours.
The Chapel Trail begins at Baldegg Kloster railway station, linking religious buildings with everyday life in the Seetal. Winding between farmsteads, the route climbs across open meadows to Ibenmoos. The Maria zum Schnee chapel stands directly beside the trail, which shortly afterwards continues through Lieli.
The route then descends to Heidegg. Schloss Heidegg stands high above the Baldeggersee in a largely preserved park and cultural landscape of national importance. The residence and chapel are also considered cultural assets of national importance. The refreshment kiosk is right beside the castle, before the trail passes the Church of St Pankratius and continues to Hitzkirch.
The trail climbs for a second time via Bleulikon. Near Hämikon, it reaches its highest point at around 680 m. It then descends through a landscape of meadows, fields and farmsteads to Altwis and continues to Ermensee. After Richensee, the final section leads through the first houses to Hitzkirch railway station.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
