01/ Overview
The route
Across meadows and wooded hills, the route leads from Hochdorf to Schloss Heidegg and down to Gelfingen, with sweeping views over the Luzerner Seetal.
Hochdorf can be reached on the S9. From the first houses, the hiking trail heads out into open meadows and climbs via Güniken towards Hohenrain. At the commandery, it is worth pausing to take in the sweeping view before the route continues to gain height between fields and short stretches of woodland.
At Ibenmoos, roughly halfway along, it reaches its highest point at around 680 m. Near the Maria zum Schnee chapel, the descent to Lieli begins. The Nünegg ruins lie off the route above the village; the additional climb to the viewing platform is only possible when the gate is open.
The trail then descends through the gentle hills of the Luzerner Seetal to Schloss Heidegg. This castle of national importance stands in a preserved park and cultural landscape high above the Baldeggersee; the rose garden also lies along the route. Passing St Wendelin, the trail enters the first houses of Gelfingen and continues to the railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
