01/ Overview
The route
An almost level nature discovery trail links Hochdorf with Baldegg. Along the way, observation stations, Turbiweier and Lake Baldegg offer insights into a variety of habitats.
The Pro Natura Nature Discovery Trail begins at Hochdorf railway station at just under 490 m, which is also the highest point on the route. Beyond the first houses, the trail descends gently into open countryside. Five marked observation stations and richly illustrated information panels draw attention to different habitats and their characteristic animal and plant species.
The natural-surface, pushchair-friendly gravel path leads to the observation hide and then on to Turbiweier. Meadows and open spaces characterise this almost level section of the trail. Another station follows at the flood basin before the route reaches Lake Baldegg near Baldegg.
The trail now runs close to the shore. Lake Baldegg is listed in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance. At the Baldegg lakeside bathing area, there are opportunities for swimming and refreshments. Shortly afterwards, the final metres lead to the houses of Baldegg and Baldegg railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
