01/ Overview

The route

If there isn’t enough snow down below, the car-free plateau of Bargis offers a worthwhile alternative: a charming cross-country trail at the foot of the Ringelspitz, including a mystical mountain forest and snowy alpine pastures.

From the Fidaz, Bargis bus stop, the eight-kilometre trail begins by Berghaus Bargis. Initially, the circuit climbs gently across open terrain. After a good one and a half kilometres, it reaches its highest point at around 1'570 m, not far from Mutta Bella. The modest elevation difference defines this first section: the trail gains height steadily without requiring a long climb.

It then sweeps in a broad arc across the open expanses of Bargis. The elevation profile remains gentle, with easy undulations and a total of around 110 metres of ascent and descent. The circuit reaches its lowest point towards the end, before a final short climb leads back to the starting point. After a good two hours, the cross-country ski route finishes back at the Fidaz, Bargis bus stop and Berghaus Bargis.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
