Baselbieter Chirsiweg

The Baselbieter Chirsiweg leads through narrow valleys and across sunny Table Jura plateaus in the Upper Basel region, meanders through forests, past mystical waterfalls and caves, and across expansive field orchards with open views. It ends in Oltingen, a village with one of the region’s best preserved centres.

The hike begins at the Sommerau bus stop near Rümlingen. The trail initially crosses open meadows before climbing into the forest. After roughly a third of the route, the Rünenberger Giessen waterfall lies directly beside the trail. The path then continues uphill until it reaches the houses of Rünenberg.

Beyond the village, fields and stretches of woodland alternate. In rockier terrain, the Bruderloch cave and the Wasserflue waterfall follow in quick succession, both just a few steps from the trail. Shortly afterwards, the route passes through Wenslingen and emerges onto the open heights of the Baselbiet. Continuing through a series of steady ascents and descents, it approaches Sodholden; at around 630 m, the highest point comes only in the final section of the hike. The trail then descends between meadows and woodland to Oltingen. After around three hours and eleven kilometres, the hike ends at the Oltingen, Schulhaus bus stop.
