Short hikes in the treeless Avers high valley above Andeer offer one thing above all else: silence. With the cross-country trails and ski slopes far behind, the only distractions are snow-covered mountain peaks like the Gletscherhorn or Wengahorn.

From the Avers, Rufana bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point in Juppa. The winter hiking trail leaves the houses behind and leads into the open high valley. It gradually gains altitude without any long, steep sections; amid broad meadows and pastures, views of the surrounding slopes remain unobstructed.

About halfway along, the circular route reaches its highest point at around 2,060 m, near the Schinetahörner. It then slopes gently back down the valley, returning through the same expansive terrain. The gentle elevation profile, with a total ascent of around 100 metres, leaves plenty of room to appreciate the peaceful vastness of the Avers valley.

After five kilometres and just over an hour and a half, the houses of Juppa reappear. The winter hike ends there, close to its starting point; the Avers, Rufana bus stop is around 200 metres away.
