01/ Overview
The route
Nature-lovers seeking peace and quiet will enjoy this hike in Avers high valley. Past sun-browned houses and stables built in typical Walser style, you follow the Avers and Juf tributaries of the Rhine from Juppa to Juf. Juf is the "top of Europe" – the continent's highest settlement that is inhabited all year.
From the Avers, Pürt bus stop, the winter hike initially leads through the small cluster of houses and out into the open high valley. The route climbs gently from the outset, without any prolonged downhill sections. Broad meadows and pastures line the trail up the valley, interspersed with small settlements across the valley floor. After just over one kilometre, Am Bach is left behind before the houses once again give way to the open landscape.
Around the halfway point, the route reaches Juppa. From there, the steady ascent continues towards the head of the valley. The highest point of the hike, at around 2,130 m near Foppaspitz, is reached only shortly before the destination. After five kilometres, around 260 metres of ascent and just under two hours, the winter hike ends at the Avers, Juf bus stop. The Gasthaus Alpenrose stands right beside it.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
