01/ Overview

The route

A steep hut hike through moorland and rocky mountain terrain. Colourful pools and views across the Göscheneralpsee and the Dammastock group accompany the ascent to the Bergseehütte SAC.

It is only a few steps from the Göscheneralp, Dammagletscher PostBus stop to the Berggasthaus Dammagletscher. This is where the approximately six-and-a-half-kilometre hut hike begins. The white-red-white marked mountain path climbs across open slopes. Colourful pools soon appear amid the moorland, with views opening up beyond them across the Göscheneralpsee and the Dammastock group.

Higher up, meadows and moorland increasingly give way to rock. The path now steepens, gaining around 580 metres in elevation over just over three kilometres. On the steep final ascent, it is particularly important to remain on the marked path, as the slopes are vulnerable to erosion.

The highest point is reached at the Bergseehütte SAC, at around 2,370 m. The hut stands in rocky terrain and serves as a starting point for alpine climbing tours. The return follows the same mountain path, initially across the steep slope and then through the open moorland. After just under three hours, the route ends back at the Berggasthaus Dammagletscher.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
