01/ Overview
The route
A scenic hut hike from Göscheneralpsee to Dammahütte SAC. The steep mountain trail leads across alpine pastures, stone steps and boulder fields into the barren landscape beside the Dammagletscher.
The roughly eleven-kilometre hut hike begins at Göscheneralpsee by the Göscheneralp, Dammagletscher PostBus stop. The mountain trail climbs via Älpergen and below Höhenberg into open alpine terrain. The shorter southern route remains in the shade in the morning as far as the bridge over the Dammareuss; beyond it, the path begins to climb more noticeably.
At Dammastäfeli, the terrain becomes rockier. Stone steps and boulder fields characterise the final ascent as the Dammagletscher comes into view. After just over two hours, the highest point is reached at Dammahütte SAC, at around 2,420 m. The hut stands on the southern ridge of Moosstock and offers views down to the reservoir; it is staffed in summer.
The descent initially leads down through the barren glacial landscape, then crosses pastures once more to the lake. Close to the shore, the loop concludes after just over four hours at the Berggasthaus Dammagletscher and the Göscheneralp, Dammagletscher PostBus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
