01/ Overview
The route
The winter hike from Blauherd to Fluhalp follows a path whose theme is: «How animals survive in winter». The route is also the perfect opportunity for the whole family to soak up the sun.
The roughly four-kilometre winter hike begins directly at the Blauherd station. The route initially descends gently across open terrain, reaching Stellisee after just under half an hour. The mountain lake lies right beside the trail and is a popular photo motif, known for its clear reflection of the Matterhorn. In winter, it is above all the lake’s setting on the broad high plateau that defines this first section of the loop.
Beyond the lake, the route begins to climb again. After a total ascent of around 180 metres, it reaches its highest point near Unterrothorn at just over 2,600 m. A little farther on, Fluhalp lies directly on the loop. From there, the winter route sweeps back across the open slopes in a broad arc, gradually losing the elevation gained earlier. After just over an hour and a half, it ends back at the Blauherd station.
