01/ Overview
The route
From Rougemont, which was once the priory of Cluny, the trial goes over the Kirchenhügel from Château-d'Oex to the Grand Chalet of Rossinière. It goes between the rushing Saane and landscape steeped in history, moulded by the mountain farmers.
From Rougemont railway station, the hiking trail leaves the village and climbs through a landscape of meadows and pastures. After just over two kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,000 m. The trail then descends to Flendruz and continues across the open slopes of the Pays-d’Enhaut.
At Gérignoz, the forest draws closer. Shortly afterwards comes the most striking spot on the hike, the Cascade du Ramaclé: the trail passes right beside the waterfall. Alternating between shady woodland and open terrain, the route then continues to Château-d’Oex.
Beyond the lively valley town, the surroundings become more rural again. Via Le Pré, the route continues through gently undulating terrain towards Rossinière. After 14 kilometres and just under four hours, the hike ends near the railway station. The nearby Lac du Vernex, a reservoir on the Sarine, lies slightly off the route.
